Exploring Oahu
Exploring Oahu is a series of episodic videos, put out through Indigo Child Blog, showcasing a two week adventure on the island of Oahu. The idea was to create short, focused videos from specific places that we explored on the island and combine them with original music that I created to give each episode a unique vibe or sense of emotion.
Episode 1
Episode 1 of the Exploring Oahu series contains some of our favorite drone shots from the trip and serves as a sort of cinematic intro to the rest of the videos. My aim was to create music that matched the grand, cinematic feel that the drone shots provided but also remained simple enough to not distract the viewer from the beauty of the visuals.
Episode 2
Episode 2 of the Exploring Oahu series takes a somewhat more upbeat turn from the first video and is composed of footage from a spectacular hike up into the mountains called the Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail. I wanted the video to reflect the feeling of hiking straight up into the mountains and being surrounded by incredible views but constantly being drawn to something else because of the urge to keep climbing.
Episode 3
Episode 3 of the Exploring Oahu series has a much more intimate feeling to it, as it captures our time spent at two of Oahu’s beautiful Botanical Gardens. I wanted to create music that had a gentle feel to it, but also provided a sense of awe and wonder to reflect the feelings we had while exploring these spectacular gardens.
Episode 4
Episode 4 of the Exploring Oahu series captures our experience of hiking the Lulumahu Falls trail, which lead us through a thick, bamboo forest until we reached the base of the towering waterfall itself. I really wanted to utilize the natural sounds of the bamboo forest and the waterfall, so I tried to incorporate music that left space for the sounds to provide their atmosphere while also providing a sense of excitement and energy that would be missing otherwise.
Episode 4
Episode 5 of the Exploring Oahu Series focuses on our time spent exploring Tantalus Drive, a beautiful, scenic drive just outside of Honolulu. From the lush forests to the spectacular views and sunsets we were able to see here, it was easily one of our favorite places on the entire island.
